The Art of Hands-On Assists: A Thai Massage–Inspired Approach

3-Hour Continuing Education Workshop for Yoga Teachers (3 CEUs)

Sunday, February 15th, from 2-5pm
Canyon Wren, Icicle Creek Center for the Arts
Leavenworth, WA

Hands-on assists are a powerful way to support students’ nervous systems, deepen trust, and invite profound relaxation—but they require presence, confidence, and skill. This 3-hour workshop is designed for yoga teachers who want to refine the art of assisting with clarity, sensitivity, and intuition, drawing from the grounding and fluid principles of Thai massage.

Rooted in a Thai massage foundation, this training explores how to safely and effectively offer hands-on assists using props, body weight, and mindful touch. Teachers will learn how to energetically and physically approach students, read subtle cues, and offer assists that guide students toward release—without force or over-efforting.

We’ll explore how to connect with your intuition while maintaining clear boundaries, consent, and professionalism. You’ll gain practical tools for building confidence in assisting students in a variety of bodies and needs, with special attention to restorative yoga.

The workshop culminates in learning a 75-minute restorative yoga sequence specifically designed for hands-on assists, including options for double touch, so you can immediately integrate these techniques into your own classes.

In this workshop, you will learn to:

  • Apply Thai massage–inspired principles to yoga assists

  • Gain confidence assisting students using props and supportive positioning

  • Energetically and physically approach students with clarity and ease

  • Develop intuitive awareness while offering safe, grounded touch

  • Assist students toward deeper relaxation, release, and nervous system regulation

  • Learn and practice a full 75-minute restorative sequence with hands-on assists and double touch options

About the Instructor: Rae Helsel
Rae is Thai massage certified, holds over 1,000 hours of Yoga Alliance training, and has 15 years of experience teaching and assisting students in a wide range of settings. Her approach blends technical skill with intuitive presence, emphasizing safety, compassion, and embodied awareness.

This workshop is open to yoga teachers and qualifies for 3 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
